T. Krishnapriya is an artist based in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. She completed her BFA from the University of Jaffna in 2012 and her MFA from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore in 2020.
Krishnapriya’s practice is deeply introspective, shaped by an ongoing engagement with the body, memory, and the emotional architectures of care and absence. Working primarily through drawing, she develops a restrained visual language that is at once delicate and exacting, where line becomes a site of both inscription and release.
Central to her work is a sustained inquiry into maternal absence and the psychic imprint it leaves on the body. Recurrent motifs of the womb, membrane, and internal structures appear not as fixed symbols but as shifting, embodied forms that speak to origin, rupture, and longing. These forms often unfold as cellular or cocoon-like networks, suggesting states of protection, containment, and vulnerability.
Her process is materially and physically charged. Using a nail to incise the surface of paper, she produces fine, almost imperceptible lines that evoke veins, tissues, and connective systems. This act of marking introduces a tension between violence and care, where the surface bears the trace of both gesture and sensation. The resulting compositions are minimal and atmospheric, often rendered in a muted palette that heightens their quiet intensity.
In works such as the Membrane series, Krishnapriya approaches drawing as a durational and meditative act. Lines accumulate into breathing, organic structures that hover between abstraction and figuration, suggesting interior states that are at once deeply personal and universally resonant. Her works demand a sustained and attentive gaze, unfolding gradually as fields of affect rather than immediate images.
