Dark Dreamscape 1- II

Dark Dreamscape 1- II

2025

Pencil, Pen, and brush-and-ink on paper

The two separate drawings have been combined to form Dark Dreamscape I (two-in-one), and the three separate drawings have been combined to form Dark Dreamscape II (three-in-one).

Together, these works explore the intertwined memories of displacement and the tactile botanical experiences rooted in childhood play. At the same time, they reflect the subtle harmonies and tensions between the interior and exterior of the body. On one level, the series evokes the struggles and fragile coexistence among divided communities and contested borders; on another, it highlights the natural interconnectedness of all beings and invites viewers to reconsider these relationships with renewed awareness.

The textures, lines, and forms evoke the delicate flowers of small plants and grasses, as well as the internal organs and the external surfaces of land and natural objects. They also draw parallels with wires, pipelines, and the intricate pathways of veins and arteries. The use of black-and-white ink, pencil, and pen highlights a sense of diversity and natural hybridity—elements that move beyond ideas of nationalism, caste, class, and gender. Forms extending beyond the rectangular edges of the paper suggest an expansion of borders. The hyper-detailed mark-making and tonal variations convey depth, revealing multiple layers of meaning and perception within the work.
