Fatimah Hossaini

Fatimah Hossaini is an Afghan artist, photographer, curator, exhibitioner, and founder of the Mastooraat Organization — a Kabul-based nonprofit that aims to empower women through art and photography. She is the youngest among the 10 inaugural winners of the Hypatia International Award, which recognizes commitment in the fields of research, art, and professions. Hossaini received her Bachelor of Arts in Photography from the University of Tehran, after completing her first degree in Industrial Engineering.

In 2020, her work was recognized with the Hypatia International Award. In 2022, she was named a Rising Talent and Youth Ambassador by the Women’s Forum in France.


From 2018 to 2019, she taught at the Faculty of Arts at Kabul University. Fatimah has worked extensively as an advocate for women’s and refugee rights on national and international platforms. Her work tells powerful stories of identity and femininity in Afghanistan. Although color and passion are key elements of her artistic success, she specializes in staged photography.Driven by her passion for the arts, her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions and art festivals across Iran, Afghanistan, India, Turkey, China, Japan, South Korea, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Albania, France, the United States (New York), and beyond.


Additionally, Fatimah’s works and articles have been featured in local and international publications, including BBC, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, LensCulture, TRT World, Bloomberg, Business Insider, Outriders, NRK, Sydasien, Art Represent, Le Figaro Magazine, L’Eclectique Magazine, Chiiz Magazine, CIIN Magazine, Nytt Magazine, Held Collective, and many more.
