Kamalika Bose

Kamalika Bose is an urban conservationist, curator, and educator with over twelve years of experience in heritage-oriented planning, design, advocacy, and research. She is the founder of Heritage Synergies India, a dynamic practice dedicated to the stewardship, preservation, and management of built and cultural heritage, with a focus on urban conservation and adaptive reuse in historic cities.

A Fulbright Scholar, Kamalika holds a Master’s in Historic Preservation Planning from Cornell University. She has authored Seeking the Lost Layers: Traditional Dwellings of the Urban Elite in North Calcutta (2008) and co-authored A History of Interior Design in India (2007) and The Hoysala Legacy (2019). She also edited People Called Kolkata (2019).


She previously served as Assistant Professor at CEPT University (2008–15) and has received fellowships from the Society of Architectural Historians & Getty, the EU’s Global Cultural Leadership Programme, and the French Ministry of Culture. Kamalika is an expert member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Shared Built Heritage and serves on the Steering Committee of ICOMOS India.
