Alankrita Shrivastava is an award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer based in Mumbai, known for her bold, women-centric narratives that champion nuanced, real characters.
She made her directorial debut with Turning 30 in 2011, and rose to prominence with Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017), which won the Grand Prix at Créteil International Women’s Film Festival, multiple international awards—including the Spirit of Asia Prize at Tokyo and the Oxfam Award at MAMI—and a Filmfare Critics nomination

The film, noted for its feminist themes and portrayal of women’s desires, overcame major certification hurdles in India.
Shrivastava has since written and directed other notable works, including Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (2019), which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, and the short Open Doors. On television, she co-wrote and directed episodes for Made in Heaven (Amazon Prime) Seasons 1 and 2, directed a segment in Modern Love: Mumbai, and created, wrote, and directed the Netflix series Bombay Begums (2022).
Alankrita has also directed documentaries, short films, music videos, and commercials, and served as Associate Director on Raajneeti (2010). Named one of GQ’s 50 Most Influential Young Indians (2017), she studied Journalism at Lady Shri Ram College and Mass Communication at Jamia Millia Islamia. Known for her strong feminist voice, Shrivastava champions women’s stories featuring nuanced, real characters.
