Billy Zhao is a writer, researcher, and performance curator based in New York. Since 2013, he has been a collaborator at Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI), where he currently serves as a curator of performance working on numerous international exhibitions. He was the teaching assistant to Marina Abramović, the first appointed Pina Bausch Professorship (2022-2023) at the Folkwang University of Art in Essen, Germany.
In 2019, he was a participating artist in Adelita Husni-Bey’s The Council, which is currently in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He earned in B.A. in Art History and Studio Art from CUNY Macaulay Honors at Hunter College, NY.
