Speakers:
Olav Velthuis- Velthuis is a professor at the Department of Sociology of the University of Amsterdam. He worked as a Staff Reporter Globalization for the Dutch daily de Volkskrant, as an Assistant Professor at the University of Konstanz and as a Post-Doc researcher at Columbia University. Velthuis has published several books and many articles on art markets including Talking Prices. Symbolic Meanings of Prices on the Market for Contemporary Art (Princeton University Press, 2005). His journalistic writings on the topic have appeared in among others The New York Times, Artforum, the Art Newspaper and the Financial Times.
Véronique Chagnon-Burke, is an Independent Scholar and Co-Founder of WADDA (Women Art Dealers Digital Archives). In 2022, she was elected co-chair of The International Art Market Studies Association [TIAMSA]. Her museum and research positions have included work at the Museum of Modern Art and the College Art Association, and she has also worked at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris. From 2002 to 2021, she was the Director of Christie’s Education in New York. She was a section editor for the Art Market Dictionary [BAM, Bloomsbury Art Markets], an online tool published by Bloomsbury Press in London in 2023.
