Ursula Maria Probst, also known as Transcultural Emancipation and Female Obsession, is a multidisciplinary cultural worker, curator, performer, and art critic based in Vienna, Austria. She currently serves as the Artistic Director of FLUCC – Center for Arts and Communities, focusing on contemporary art and community engagement.
Probst's work spans across gender studies, biodiversity, the healing power of art, and urban research, often integrating performance, curation, and academic work. Since 2017, she has led Transcultural Emancipation, a project encompassing performances and exhibitions in countries such as Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Panama, Argentina, Peru, Guatemala, and beyond. Her performances have also been featured in Asia through the ongoing BODY Embedding project, which she initiated in 2018 with Hongwei Duan, with notable appearances in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Nepal, and India.
Probst’s curatorial projects include collaborations with leading Austrian institutions such as KulturKontakt Austria, Vienna Artweek, and Galerie Krinzinger. As an art critic, her writing has appeared in publications like Kunstforum International, Spike, and Dérive. She is known for her work in public art, with projects such as, In Search of the Urban AlterEgo and The Future Starts Today.
Her upcoming projects include Body Embeddingin Beijing in 2024, and significant exhibitions like Super Naturin Lower Austria, andCare on Earth at FLUCC Vienna. Probst also lectures on public art and structural power dynamics at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, University of Art and Design Linz, and University of Applied Arts Vienna.
