Grandmother's Funeral

This series explores the question: What is death?
Through photographing death-related rituals of people I have known, I attempt to
understand death beyond personal loss. Death can be thought of in two ways—one
shaped by the grief we feel when we lose those closest to us, and the other as death
itself, understood as an event separate from sorrow.
Using photography, I explore what exists between these two ends: the known and
the unknown. What fascinates me about death is the realization that, despite rituals,
beliefs, and mourning, we ultimately know very little about it.
