Overview
Sajal Sarkar, an artist of the Indian diaspora, works across various mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. After earning a degree in Drawing and Painting from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata in 1989, he pursued Printmaking at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara from 1993-1995. Sarkar has received multiple awards, such as the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship (2024) and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant (2021).
Since migrating to the USA in 2016, he has continued his art practice and served as an instructor at the Visual Art Center of Summit, New Jersey. Sarkar has exhibited internationally and delivered talks at institutions like the University of Connecticut and Maharaja Sayajirao University. His work is featured in collections including the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.
Sarkar's work has been highlighted in publications such as Art India Magazine and Art Review City.
Currently based in New Jersey.
