Ranjeet Singh Indian, b. 1984
"In most of the early school days in my childhood, I spent my time with tribal children in Jharkhand. They were my classmates, became my friends and that association still continues. Due to their poor economic conditions, many of them could not pursue their studies as their parent’s earnings were lesser than basic wages. They had to support themselves and help their parents working menial jobs, such as daily wage labourers.
As I pursue my artistic endeavours, the lives of labourers have always been the focus of my subject matter. So the images of coal mines and the life of labourers never left my artistic imagination. Through the brush strokes of mine, all those visuals of struggle, hardship and poor lifestyle come alive on my canvases. To understand the subject on a profound level and capturing the moments in frames, camera is a new normal in my artistic process." - Ranjeet Singh
